Peoples Bank has 21 branch locations in Alexander, Catawba, Lincoln, Iredell and Mecklenburg Counties. Of the 21 branch locations, four are through Banco de la Gente in Mecklenburg, Union and Wake Counties that offer a line of products designed to serve the Latino community. What does FDIC insured mean?
The Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC) is an independent agency of the U.S. Government which provides depositors in insured banks (such as Peoples Bank) protection against loss of funds in checking, savings, and CD accounts (up to the legal limits). Your deposits at Peoples Bank are insured up to a maximum of $100,000 per individual, plus an additional $250,000 for Individual Retirement Accounts. How does Peoples Bank assist customers in preventing identity theft?
Peoples Bank is concerned about identity theft and credit fraud so we offer new Equifax Identity Theft Services called Gold or Gold Plus though Econo check. This comprehensive service helps you safeguard your identity, protect your credit rating and recover from losses associated with identity theft. When are funds available after deposit?
Our general policy is to allow you to withdraw funds deposited in your account on the first business day after the day we receive your deposit. Funds from electronic direct deposits will be available on the day we receive the deposit. In some cases, we may delay your ability to withdraw funds beyond the first business day. Then, the funds will generally be available by the fifth business day after the day of deposit.
Do you offer traveler's cheques?
Yes, we offer American Express Traveler's Cheques. There is no charge for traveler's cheques to our Plus accountholders. Peoples Bank customers pay a fee of $2.00 per $100.00 when using one name on the check and a fee of $4.00 per $100.00 is charged for non-bank customers. With two names, a fee of $3.00 per $100.00 is incurred for bank customers and a fee of $6.00 per $100.00 for non-bank customers.
Do you have safe deposit boxes and what is the cost?
Yes, as a full-service bank, Peoples Bank takes pride in offering our customers a safe place for important documents or personal belongings. We have several different size options and the cost is based on the safe deposit box size. Availability varies by branch office. What is a wire transfer?
A wire transfer is an electronic payment service used to transfer funds by wire (such as the Federal Reserve Wire Network or the Clearing House Interbank Payments System).

What does it cost to send a domestic wire?
For a Peoples Bank customer, the fee is $15 for outgoing and $12 for incoming.

Our customers pay $40 for outgoing and $20 for incoming international wires.
What is Check 21?
The Check Clearing for the 21st Century Act is a new legislation that became effective October 28, 2004. Known simply as Check 21, the legislation's goal was to improve the overall efficiency of the nation's payment system. Previously when you wrote a check, it was first deposited into the payee's bank and then sent back to Peoples Bank for the amount to be withdrawn from your account. By physically transporting checks from bank to bank, this process was not only time consuming but expensive as well. Check 21 has provided a new option: creation and use of paper reproductions of original checks. This reproduction is called a "substitute check" and is produced from a digital image of the original check.
How will Check 21 affect me?
As of October 28, 2004, every bank, including Peoples Bank, was required to accept and process substitute checks, just as they currently accept and process original paper checks. Due to the improved check clearing process, however, your checks will clear faster, so be sure that you have sufficient funds in your account to cover the checks you write.
